A word from us

Life’s still busy. Good.

Most people dating after 50 are in the middle of things: a divorce that’s just come through, a house that’s gone quiet, a job that still eats the week. Nobody waits for life to get tidy. It never does. So date in the gaps — a drink after work, a long Sunday walk — and be exactly who you are.

Where people in their fifties are starting from

Single again at 50-something

After a divorce

Twenty years off the market? You’ll feel rusty for about a week. Then you’ll remember you’re good company.

The kids have left home

The house is quiet. The weekends are yours. Fill them with someone worth the effort.

Still working full-time

Busy diary? Fine. Twenty minutes after dinner is plenty to spot someone interesting.

Caring for parents

Some Sundays aren’t free. Say so. The right person gets it.

Never married

Not behind. Just choosy. Lead with the life you’ve built.

After losing a partner

Widowed sooner than you expected? No timetable, no rulebook. Wanting company is reason enough. More on our over 60 page.

How to start

Dating after 50: three moves that work

1

Know what you’re after

Serious? Weekends? A cinema date with chemistry? Say it. You’re allowed to change your mind.

2

Use a photo from this year

Not the wedding in 2009. Daylight, real smile, doing something you love.

3

Call before dinner

Ten minutes on the phone beats a week of messages. Then coffee. Then see.

Your profile

What to write when you’re over 50

The profiles that get warm replies are specific. "I like travel and good food" could be anyone. "I’ve just learned to make proper bread and I’m unreasonably proud of it" is somebody.

Leave the ex out of it

Even “no drama, please” says drama. Write about now.

Invite, don’t list rules

Rules sound tired. “I’d love someone to try the new walking trail with” sounds like an invitation — and invitations get replies.

Example by our teamBack on my own after a long marriage. Good cook, bad singer. Looking for someone to argue about films with.
Example by our teamNurse, three night shifts a week. Off-duty I’m on my allotment or at the sea. Patient, mostly.
Example by our teamMy son just moved out and took the noise with him. I’d like some of it back — over dinner, ideally.

These are writing examples, not real members.

Our money rule

Never send money to anyone you meet online. Whatever the story.

Real interest wants your company, not your account details. Keep money talk off the table — and anyone who brings it up gets no further reply.

Questions about dating after 50

Over 50 dating FAQ

Isn’t 50 a bit young for a senior dating site?

Maybe. Here “senior” just means over 50 and not interested in competing with 25-year-olds. At 52 you’re very welcome.

How do I tell my grown-up children I’m dating?

When there’s something to tell. You don’t need their permission — though they’ll probably want details.

I was married for 25 years. How does dating even work now?

Same as ever: talk, meet, see if there’s a spark. You just start by typing.

How much does it cost?

All VIP membership prices are listed openly on our prices page, for the US, the UK, Canada and Australia, with a plain note on which ones renew.

Senior dating by age

Dating over 60, over 70, and the rest of the site

Closer to sixty? Or seventy? These pages are yours too.

Fifty-something and curious? Good.
